At this point, Banana Boogie Bakery might need to start thinking about a bigger trophy cabinet.
The Adelaide favourite has continued an incredible run of national success, this time taking out the Gourmet Pork Pie category at the 37th Official Great Aussie Pie Competition with its long-time crowd favourite, the Smokey BBQ Pulled Pork Pie.
And that wasn’t the bakery’s only success.
Banana Boogie walked away with three gold medals, with its Vegetarian Mushroom Stroganoff Pie and apprentice Bert’s Apricot Chicken Pie also receiving gold.
For the team, there was something particularly satisfying about seeing the Smokey BBQ Pulled Pork Pie take the top prize.
Unlike a new creation developed specifically for competition, the pie has been sitting in Banana Boogie’s cabinets and winning over Adelaide customers for years.
“It’s especially bloody awesome to see one of our long-term crowd favourites take out a category,” the team shared.
“The Smokey BBQ Pulled Pork Pie has been a staple at Boogie for years, so to see it recognised at the 37th Official Great Aussie Pie Competition is pretty damn special.”
The latest haul continues what has already been a massive year for the South Australian bakery.
In May, Banana Boogie was crowned Australia’s Best Bakery at the 2026 Australian Small Business Champion Awards, recognising the business as a whole rather than one individual product.
It also claimed Australia’s Best Sausage Roll earlier this year, alongside first prizes for its vanilla slice and beef pie at the South Australian Baking Show.
Then, just weeks ago, Banana Boogie headed interstate for the National Vanilla Slice Triumph in Merbein with its sights firmly set on reclaiming a title it narrowly lost in 2025.
The competition came down to an extraordinary tie, with the top three bakeries initially finishing on exactly the same number of points.
Following a second round of judging, Banana Boogie emerged on top, once again earning the title of Australia’s Best Vanilla Slice.
For a bakery that started by selling banana bread from markets before growing into bricks-and-mortar stores, the awards have become increasingly difficult to keep track of.
Its collection now spans sausage rolls, vanilla slices, pies, pasties and bakery-wide business honours, while the team continues to operate from Belair and North Plympton, with a new Adelaide Central Market location also on the way.
