The food safety department in Karnataka has ordered the closure of the kitchen at Chairman’s Club in Bengaluru following a special inspection. Officials uncovered severe hygiene violations, including 40 kilograms of expired chilli stored for food preparation, improperly labelled food items, and unauthorised artificial colours. The inspection also revealed soiled food spilled across the floor and improper storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items together. Following directions from Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader after receiving member complaints, expired food products were seized and the restaurant area inside the club was shut down. Legal action has been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 as authorities continue strict inspection drives across food establishments in Bengaluru.
