The Painter | Write Out Loud

The Painter | Write Out Loud

The painter set me free

Though, she’ll never know

The effect she had on me…

She paints tumultuous seas

And faces cooled by an ocean breeze

She paints keys and wings and sails

Doorways, maps and waiting planes

She paints lips with addictive accents

Tumbling vulnerable admissions

She washes great swathes moody oil

Across this stretched canvas of the future

She paints peaceful pristine sunrises

Over dusty foreign plains

And enticing mountain trails that wind

Away from all that does not fit me

I long to live inside her paintbox

In that smudged pallet of emotion

Be the brush she’d choose

To colour in these lives

The tides of her mind are not designed

To meet the shores of mine

And when I’m finally free to ask

I’m so blankly declined

The painter set me free

Though, she’ll never know

The effect she had on me…
