Former New Zealand Cricket chief returns home before the league’s fifth season in November
David White will leave his role as chief executive of the DP World International League T20 after deciding not to extend his contract and return to New Zealand.
The UAE-based cricket league confirmed his departure on Thursday, bringing to an end a three-year spell that began when he was appointed chief executive in September 2023.
White joined after the inaugural ILT20 season and was in charge for Seasons 2, 3 and 4.
His final season as CEO ended in January, when the Desert Vipers won their first ILT20 title with victory over MI Emirates at Dubai International Stadium.
ILT20 chairman Khalid Al Zarooni thanked White for his work during his time in Dubai.
“The ILT20 team acknowledges the hard work and commitment of David White as the league’s CEO in his three-year stay and thank him for his services,” Al Zarooni said.
White, a former New Zealand Test cricketer who spent more than a decade as chief executive of New Zealand Cricket, said the decision was based on returning home.
“I have decided to return to my home country, New Zealand, after three hugely successful years with the DP World International League T20”
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the ILT20 management, the Emirates Cricket Board, my colleagues, tournament franchises and partners for their tremendous work and support.”
His departure comes shortly before preparations move into their final stages for ILT20 Season 5.
The six-team tournament starts on November 22 and runs until December 20, with the final scheduled for Dubai International Stadium.
The ILT20 did not name White’s replacement in its announcement.
