Final: Red Sox 3, Mariners 8

The Boston Red Sox lose their series against the Seattle Mariners with an 8-3 loss at home.

Seattle’s strong hitting throughout this series continued today as Patrick Sandoval and Brayan Bello both allowed four runs in their appearance.

After retiring the side in the first two innings, Sandoval struggled, letting the Mariners take a 4-0 lead. Sandoval’s first run scored on a wild pitch, and the lefty then allowed an RBI single to Julio Rodriguez. Josh Naylor picked up Seattle’s third run on another RBI single, and an errant throw from Jarren Duran allowed another run to score.

Sandoval only pitched four innings, allowing five hits and walks in his start. Boston’s started struggled throwing strikes today, allowing hitters to get towards 2-1 counts.

Bello took over in the fifth inning, and his struggles start during his second inning on the mound where the Mariners added four additional runs. The Mariners scored on three consecutive hits with Jhonny Pereda, Randy Arozarena and Dominic Canzone picking up RBI’s.

On the hitting side for Boston, Trevor Story and Roman Anthony continued their strong hitting. In the fourth inning, Story picked up an RBI ground-rule double, and in the seventh, Anthony smacked a left field home run for his first home run since April.

Despite tying the Mariners in hits and batting strikeouts, Seattle did more damage today to pick up the victory.

The Red Sox will now travel to Baltimore to take on the Orioles. Tomorrow’s first pitch will be at 7:15 p.m.
