Kareena Kapoor Khan has rarely ever made an unimpressive public appearance. The actor, who is currently promoting her movie Daayra with her co-stars and creators, made yet another headline-making attendance on the red carpet in a vintage look. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, she wore an olive green military-inspired jacket and matching pants from Versace’s Fall 2003 collection.
Designed by Donatella Versace, the pantsuit made its debut 23 years ago at the turn of the century when utilitarian clothing for women was just coming into focus. The pantsuit features a peak lapel with a plunging neckline that has a zipper opening. The epaulettes on the jacket run back to front unlike in a uniform where they are attached from the shoulder towards the neck. The leather accents on the front of the jacket are fastened with hardware emblazoned with ‘DV’—the designer’s initials. A period in time when low-waist trousers were all the rage and skinny silhouette had just about kicked in, Kapoor’s Versace pants sat perfectly in the transition period from the ’90s flared leg and roomy pants to the cigarette silhouette.
A rare find even for the most avid vintage collectors, the look, once selling on the luxury marketplace website selling vintage fashion looks called 1stDibs, now shows sold out.
Kapoor accessorised the look with earrings from Jaipur-based jewellery designer Alay Somani’s label Mhari—where a ball of perfectly set zircons sit within a mirror-polished silver bell for a highly kaleidoscopic end result, and a ring from Mumbai-based Studio Renn. For footwear, she turned to classic stilettos in a matching colour.
Kapoor Khan’s longtime makeup artist Mickey Contractor added to the overall look by prepping the skin to look fresh and the base clean, with dramatic lashes and a nude lip colour. Her chest-length hair was styled with a voluminous blowout.
