Tamil Nadu’s state-run liquor retailer TASMAC has announced that all retail shops across the state will shift to an automated indent request process from September 1, replacing manual stock submissions with entries made on dedicated handheld devices.
A senior official said the new system would help supply brands based on sales patterns in each area and improve the availability of consumers’ preferred liquor choices. The move follows directions issued by TASMAC Managing Director K Nanthakumar after decisions taken at the corporation’s head office.
In an order, Nanthakumar said the new procedure builds on the complete end-to-end computerisation achieved across all 38 districts and depots in mid-2025. He said the technology-driven system is aimed at streamlining stock distribution, removing paperwork and preventing supply bottlenecks.
“Under the new digital mechanism, eligibility quantities for each shop will automatically populate on the handheld device, organised by specific brands and pack sizes”, he said.
He added, “while supervisors cannot reduce the system-generated base figures, they are allowed to increase stock orders by up to 20 per cent based on local demand.” He also said supervisors would be able to add registered brands not featured on the automated list to meet local customer preferences.
“To ensure high accountability, physical submissions at District Manager (DM) offices will be completely phased out, and the final indent submissions will require mandatory One-Time Password (OTP) authentication sent to the registered mobile number of the designated shop supervisor”. Quantities confirmed through the system will be treated as final and sent directly to local depots for stock dispatch, with sole responsibility for verification resting with shop supervisors.
Ahead of the September 1 rollout, TASMAC is conducting a pilot phase in which printed copies signed by district managers are being processed to monitor the system’s performance. The corporation said the new process is intended to make stock ordering faster and fully digital across its retail network.
