Town of Foxborough grappling with ‘traffic chaos’ on pathway near stadium

The Town of Foxborough is making changes in an attempt to calm pedestrian traffic over a pathway leading to Gillette Stadium.

The popular pedestrian path leading to the stadium, Revolution Way, will now only be open to town residents and their guests, the town announced Tuesday.

This decision comes after an increased number of events at Gillette this year and numerous residents registering complaints with the town about unauthorized drop offs, pickups, and rideshare activity in the area, the town said.

“Revolution Way provides a valuable pedestrian access option for Foxborough residents, but it passes through a residential neighborhood. Protecting the surrounding neighborhoods and maintaining emergency access remain priorities,” the town wrote in the announcement.

Residents are dealing with “traffic chaos” in the residential neighborhood near Gillette Stadium, a resident told WBZ News Radio.

“It’s disturbing, to the point, for example, some of our neighbors have sold their houses,” a Foxborough resident named Robert told the station.

To access Revolution Way before and after an event, Foxborough residents will be required to show identification to prove their residency. Up to four people can accompany each Foxborough resident. Each person, including Foxborough residents and their guests, must have a valid event ticket, the town said.

“No ID, no access,” the town wrote.

Foxborough residents cannot accompany nonresidents past the checkpoint and then leave, and nonresidents must leave with the Foxborough resident who arrived with them, the town said.

Rideshare vehicles and other vehicles are not allowed to use Cross Street, Revolution Way, and nearby residential streets for drop offs and pick ups, and no vehicles may park anywhere within the Payson Recreational Complex, the town said. Foxborough residents may use the Upper Payson Recreational Complex at 20 Payson Road as a drop off location.

“The goal is to strike a reasonable balance,” the town said.
