Overnight fire in Holbrook hospitalizes four, including a firefighter

Three residents and a firefighter were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a Holbrook mobile home overnight, authorities said. 

The fire took place shortly before midnight on Monday on Medallion Road, Holbrook Fire Chief Luke McFadden said in a statement.

Fire officials quickly requested mutual aid due to the intensity of the fire reported by emergency callers. Upon arrival, they discovered a mobile home engulfed in flames that were spreading to nearby vehicles and threatening other buildings, McFadden said. 

Three residents were able to escape the home. They received emergency care before being taken to nearby hospitals via ambulance, according to McFadden. 

Crew members launched an “aggressive attack” to battle the flames. During the effort, one firefighter sustained a “non-life-threatening medical condition” and was transported to the hospital, McFadden said. He is expected to survive. 

Two pets were rescued from the scene, though one cat is believed to have died from smoke inhalation, according to the fire chief. 

Investigators traced the start of the fire to the front porch, and the cause is believed to be accidental, a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Fire Services told The Boston Globe. 

The fire remains under investigation, officials said.
