Farmers who have suffered crop damage due to drought will get interim compensation, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said in Belagavi on Monday.
Farmers cultivated green gram and black gram and have suffered crop loss in over 29,000 hectares in three taluks in the district.
These farmers will get an interim compensation of ₹2,500 per acre.
“Officials have prepared a detailed report of the crop loss survey in Yaragati, Savadatti and Ramdurg taluks. They have recommended declaring them as drought-hit areas. The report will be submitted to the State government in two days,” the Deputy Commissioner told reporters.
“There has been some shortage of rainfall in Athani and Kagwad taluks also. The report will evaluate that too,” he said.
Cantonment area
“The district administration has sent a report to the State government regarding the merger of 756 acres of the Cantonment area in the city corporation limits. The Secretary of the Urban Development Department has held a meeting with district officials in this regard. Once the State Cabinet takes a decision on the issue, a proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Defence by the State government,” he said in response to a question.
