Todd Monken’s solution to Deshaun Watson after getting booed by Browns fans

Deshaun Watson struggles badly for Browns in preseason loss to Bills and Cleveland fans let him hear about it

Cleveland Browns fans have been suffering for decades. The Browns have never been to the Super Bowl and they have regularly struggled against the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North. There is certainly hope that first-year head coach Todd Monken can bring about a change this season, but the Browns will need to get solid quarterback play for that to happen.

Browns coach Todd Monken on Deshaun Watson’s play today and the home crowd booing him:

“It sucks. I don’t wanna get booed. Comes with the territory. You don’t wanna get booed, play good football. … Because it can turn just like that.” pic.twitter.com/ulH475yzJT

Deshaun Watson is in the final season of a 5-year contract that was questioned from the time the Browns brought the controversial quarterback into the fold. He is fighting to win the starting QB job against Shedeur Sanders. Watson had a difficult time in Saturday’s 31-7 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Watson struggled badly against the Bills as he completed just 5 of 12 passes for 36 yards with 1 interception in the defeat. Browns fans did not hesitate to let Watson know what they thought of his performance. He was booed for his inability to lead the team successfully.

Monken was not overly sympathetic to the beleaguered quarterback. “It sucks. I don’t wanna get booed,” Monken explained. “Comes with the territory. You don’t wanna get booed, play good football. Because it can turn just like that.”

While Watson was unable to come through with a solid performance, Sanders was able to take a step forward. He completed 9 of 11 passes for 74 yards and he threw a touchdown pass to Luke Foriea. He also threw an interception, but that pass was tipped and picked off by Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
