Nick Chubb announces retirement after 8 NFL seasons

Former Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb has announced his retirement from football after eight NFL seasons.

The Houston Texans are preparing for the 2026 NFL season. They believe they have a chance to contend for a Super Bowl in 2026 after an impressive 2025 campaign. However, one member of their 2025 roster won’t be on the roster for the upcoming year. Former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is calling it a career.

Chubb announced his retirement on Friday night. He spent eight seasons in the NFL, playing all but one of them with the Browns. The veteran running back released a statement alongside his retirement announcement.

“Today’s the day I’ve been avoiding for a while. Twelve year old me could never imagine this day, and 30 year old me is wondering where all the time has gone. I’ve known for some time now, but I’m finally ready to share that I’m done playing football. I wanted to end my career on a healthy note, along with a winning season, and I was able to do that,” Chubb said on Friday, via his personal Instagram account.

Chubb was an electric and physical runner who quickly became a fan favorite in Cleveland. He produced four consecutive 1000-yard rushing seasons from 2019 until 2022. Unfortunately, he suffered a brutal injury in 2023 that limited him to two games.

His injury issues continued into the 2024 campaign. He saw a little more playing time, but ultimately suited up just eight times that year. He signed with the Texans ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Chubb shared touches with Woody Marks last season, receiving 122 carries. He finished with a little more than 500 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Most importantly, though, he was able to stay healthy, playing 15 games.

ClutchPoints wishes Chubb nothing but the best in retirement and congratulates him on an impressive career.
