White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
Trump said Leavitt is stepping away from the role to spend more time with her young children and family. He praised her as one of his most trusted aides and said she will continue advising him from outside the administration.
Leavitt, who is 28, became the youngest person to serve as White House press secretary when she took the position at the beginning of Trump’s second term in January 2025. She recently returned to the White House after maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May.
In a statement, Leavitt described the position as the “honor and adventure of a lifetime” and said that balancing the demands of the job with raising her two young children ultimately led her to make the decision to leave.
She is expected to remain a vocal supporter of Trump and an adviser outside the White House as the administration heads toward the 2026 midterm elections.
Her departure will mark a major change for Trump’s communications team after she spent more than a year as the public face of the administration at White House press briefings.
