Flying Bark unveils new original animated series DOOMSWEEPERS

Flying Bark is taking its next original animated series directly to fans, unveiling Doomsweepers alongside a crowdfunding campaign to help bring the project to life.

The Sydney based animation studio has partnered with Lightfold and Final Space creator Olan Rogers on the original series, created by writer and director Sarah Harper, while inviting fans to support its development through crowdfunding.

Doomsweepers follows a team of misfit janitors working inside a mysterious research facility who suddenly find themselves battling to save the world after uncovering the facility’s dark secret.

Flying Bark describes the series as an action “zom com”, pairing candy coloured visuals with an unlikely group of heroes facing an apocalyptic threat.

Harper said the series celebrates everyday workers while taking a post pandemic look at big tech, with friendship and resilience at its core.

“Doomsweepers follows a cute team of latex clad cogs in a machine, knuckling down and doing their best no matter what gets thrown at them.”

“The story is a post pandemic side eye at big tech, but at its heart, it’s about having each other’s backs, sticking together and celebrating the folks who continue to show up and do the thing.”

The project also marks Flying Bark’s first move into direct to fan digital content, with the crowdfunding campaign giving audiences an opportunity to support the series from the outset.

The studio hopes to expand Doomsweepers into a broader multimedia franchise spanning games, comics and merchandise.

Flying Bark’s recent credits include Shaun Tan’s Tales from Outer Suburbia, Netflix’s Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and Paramount’s Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.
