beneath the mulberry tree
in the reading chair
infrequent raindrops from
last night’s shower navigate
the dense canopy and fall
onto the back of my hand
trying to gain my attention,
it’s pleasing to see the coypu
has resettled here, trundling
around the edge of the garden
like an grumpy octogenarian
unhurried unless approached,
holidaying friends similarly
bask, solving puzzles with
quizzical faces or quizzes
with puzzled expressions,
all is quiet
