Calibrating — “Carefully adjusting a response, strategy, or judgment to fit a specific situation.” The 2024-2025 Eagles gave dedicated Philadelphia fans almost everything that they could have hoped for — especially after Kellen Moore’s offense made a mid-season pivot to a dedication and focus on the running game. The result was a season to savior — eclipsed only by a sixty-minutes of pure domination in Super Bowl LIX.
Last season — that dominance didn’t make it back on the field for the Eagles with the exception of short glimpses that led Philadelphia to an emotion of hope — week in and week out. The Eagles’ All-Pro running back who could not be slowed on his way to 2,005 yards in 2025 — slammed into a wall of defenders week after week after week — cutting that previous production in half. The quarterback who twice guided the Eagles into the last quarter of Super Bowl’s LVII and LIX very much keeping Philadelphia in each game — and delivered a dagger in the later contest to help to seal the win — looked frustrated for much of the last year. And their All-Pro wide receiver — eased his mind with a novel to read on the sideline.
Calibrating — “Testing something against an accepted point of reference to see how much it deviates or drifts.” Sean Mannion’s new offense offers a fresh-start for one of the most talented units ever in the history of Philadelphia — only two years removed from the pinnacle of excellence. A new approach and a new offense — as well as a renewed opportunity at greatness. But now — only six days into Training Camp — where does the installation of this fabulous renewed offensive approach stand?
Jalen Hurt’s insight given after practice was simply — “calibrating.”
One has to hope that the calibration that he is referring to is the result of a deep preparation from a seasoned unit that will take the field for the first pre-season game next week and home opener in approximately a month against Washington at the Linc. That an offense still with all of the power showcased in a 40–22 utter domination of the Chiefs defense in Super Bowl LIX rather than the lackluster performance that looked almost as frozen as the cold Philadelphia asphalt last January against the 49ers.
Calibrating — “Adjusting an approach to fit a specific goal or audience.” What if the Eagles offense can bring a quarter more potency than they did in 2025 — pushing the point total from 22.3 PPG to 29 PPG — matching a defense that surrendered only 19.1 PPG per game last season ranking 5th in all of the NFL?
Well then — the Eagles will almost assuredly be playing for Super Bowl in February 2027.
Fully calibrated, of course.
