JONATHAN LAPAGLIA lands first major TV role after Survivor

Jonathan LaPaglia is heading back to Australian television, taking on a very different role in one of the country’s biggest new reality productions.

Binge has confirmed the former Australian Survivor host will narrate its upcoming original series Apocalypse, an ambitious social experiment co-commissioned with the UK’s Channel 4.

First unveiled during Foxtel Group’s 2026 Upfront presentation last year, the eight part series is one of Binge’s most ambitious original productions to date. Filmed in a real abandoned town that now operates as an urban warfare training centre, Apocalypse follows ordinary Australians and Britons as they navigate life after civilisation, forced to survive using only the clothes on their backs and whatever they can find.

The announcement also marks LaPaglia’s first major Australian television role since his departure from Australian Survivor last year, with the veteran presenter swapping hosting duties for the role of narrator.

LaPaglia said the scale and ambition of Apocalypse immediately drew him to the project, describing it as a fascinating test of resilience, relationships and survival after years of watching people navigate strategy and uncertainty on screen.

“Dropping ordinary people into a post disaster world where every decision matters creates a fascinating test of resilience, relationships and survival.”

Howard Myers-Rifai, Head of Unscripted Originals at Foxtel Group, said Apocalypse represents a major milestone for Binge’s growing slate of original productions, made possible through its partnership with Channel 4, The Garden and ITV Studios Australia.

Apocalypse is unlike anything we’ve commissioned before. We can’t wait for audiences to experience this powerful combination of social experiment and reality series, discover what happens when ordinary people are pushed beyond their limits, and ask themselves What would I do?”

Produced by The Garden, the team behind Squid Game: The Challenge, alongside ITV Studios Australia, Apocalypse is expected to premiere on Binge later this year.

A premiere date for Apocalypse is yet to be announced.
