Injuries are piling up for the Cleveland Browns despite only being about a week into training camp. On Thursday, the organization received a tough blow after offensive lineman Zak Zinter became the latest player to suffer an injury.
Reports indicate that the 25-year-old guard left practice on a cart, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The injury is currently unknown, as the Browns will evaluate Zinter’s situation before making any announcements.
“Browns Zak Zinter carted into the fieldhouse,” Cabot reported. “The injuries continue to mount.”
The former Michigan Wolverines star is pegged as one of the main backup offensive linemen in Cleveland. After suffering a brutal fractured leg in his final year at Michigan, Zinter turned things around as a rookie for the Browns, appearing in 17 games in the 2024-25 campaign (three starts).
However, last year, he was limited to just five contests and didn’t start a single game. It had nothing to do with an injury, however, as he was simply working as a backup that year. Depending on the nature of the injury, Zinter is expected to remain in that role behind guards Zion Johnson and Teven Jenkins.
But the injuries are growing in Cleveland. Before Zak Zinter’s injury on Thursday, the club had already had over 10 other players dealing with some sort of issue. Head coach Todd Monken may have to get creative for the team’s first preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears on August 15.
The Browns will keep a close eye on Zinter for the time being. An official update regarding his status should be revealed in the coming days.
