Three Kanwariyas were killed in a road accident on the Ghaziabad-Meerut Expressway early Wednesday while they were on their way to Haridwar. The motorcycle carrying the three men reportedly hit a vehicle moving ahead near Kalchhina village in the Bhojpur police station area, police said.
The accident took place around 4.30 am. According to the preliminary investigation, the front portion of the motorcycle was completely damaged in the collision, indicating a strong impact. The unidentified vehicle involved in the crash has not yet been traced.
The deceased were identified as Gyanprakash, 45, Rajkumar, 35, and Pradeep, 22.
Police said all three were originally from Aligarh and were presently living in Jhajjar district of Haryana. They died at the spot before help could arrive.
After receiving information about the accident, Bhojpur police reached the expressway, secured the area and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Family members have been informed. Police said relatives were reportedly unaware that the three had left for Haridwar.
During the inspection of the motorcycle and belongings, police recovered a half-filled liquor bottle from a bag. However, officials stressed that no conclusion should be drawn from the recovery and that the exact cause of the crash would be established only after the post-mortem report and a detailed investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Modinagar) Bhaskar Verma said the initial findings suggest that the motorcycle may have rammed a vehicle travelling in front of it.
He added that investigators are examining all possible angles, including the role of another vehicle and the sequence of events leading to the collision.
The accident has cast a shadow of grief over the victims’ families, while police continue efforts to identify the vehicle involved and complete the investigation into the fatal crash.
