At the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reaffirmed her status as a red-carpet icon in an unseen custom creation by Lebanese couturier Tony Ward. For the occasion, celebrity stylist Mohit Rai, chose a bold, architectural white gown for Bachchan that stood out against the backdrop of the French Riviera.
At the core of the ensemble stood a strapless column gown featuring an off-the-shoulder corseted bodice. Encrusted with over 7,000 pearls embellished on delicate tulle, the floor-length dress took over 600 man-hours to come to life. The pearl detailing extended across the body-skimming silhouette and continued onto the floor-grazing hem. 40 metres of pristine taffeta silk was used in the construction of Bachchan’s dramatic floor-length, ruffled cape that she used to envelop the column dress.
She finished accessorising with diamond chandelier drop earrings and a few diamond statement rings. For beauty, Bachchan styled her hair in a bombshell blowout while her makeup stayed simple with shimmery eyeshadow, sharp winged eyeliner and flushed cheeks and lips.
The outing put Rai Bachchan in the spotlight once again, as she has remained a Cannes red carpet fixture since her 2002 debut. The actor has built a reputation for high-impact festival fashion, frequently leaning towards grand silhouettes. She is known for subverting simplicity on the red carpet, veering towards making headlines in couture looks. Her Ralph & Russo powder-blue off-shoulder gown in 2017 and silver hooded Sophie Couture gown in 2023 are proof. This Tony Ward look continues her longstanding tradition of choosing grand-scale creations for her annual appearances at the festival.
