A police operation is underway at the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park, with two people in custody and authorities urging the public to avoid the area.
Emergency services were called to the precinct around 4.45pm, where the Sydney Cricket Ground is, amid reports of chaos as crowds ran from the scene.
Witnesses said people were “running and screaming” near the stadium, with confusion spreading quickly through the busy entertainment and dining area.

Police confirmed there is “no ongoing threat to public safety”, despite the alarming scenes.
In a brief statement, NSW Police said: “A police operation is underway at the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park, Sydney. Two people are in custody. The public are urged to avoid the area.”
No injuries have been confirmed and authorities have not released further details about what sparked the incident.
The Entertainment Quarter sits alongside the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium.
