Faridabad woman kills lover after he refuses to marry her

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her lover, a house painter in Faridabad, after he resisted her pressure to marry her, police said on Saturday. The man’s decomposed body was found in her rented room in Anangpur village a day before her arrest.

The accused, Anita, who is from Satna village in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, was produced before a city court on Saturday and sent to two days of police custody. Police said she told them during questioning that she had been asking Sadaqat to marry her, but he kept delaying it.

According to police, Anita allegedly called Sadaqat to her room on July 25 and gave him alcohol. Late that night, when he was drunk and asleep, she allegedly slit his throat with a knife, killed him, locked the room from outside and fled.

Police said Anita and Sadaqat worked in a gated residential society in Faridabad. He worked as a house painter and she as a cleaner. Both had been married earlier, and Anita had been abandoned by her husband.

The two had earlier been sharing a room in Anangpur village, but the landlord asked Anita to vacate it after he learnt about their relationship. Around 15 days ago, she rented another room in Domka Mohalla of Anangpur village, where Sadaqat would often visit her.

In the complaint, Sadaqat’s brother Nazakat Ali said he suspected Anita of being behind the murder. He alleged that on July 23, Sadaqat left home saying he was going to Aligarh but did not return, and his mobile phone later became unreachable. When Nazakat contacted Anita, she allegedly denied that Sadaqat had visited her.

Police said they received information on Thursday about a body lying in a house in Domka Mohalla. When a team reached the spot, it found the body of Sadaqat, who was from Rampur Shahpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district.

The investigation found that he had been murdered after his throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon.

Based on Nazakat’s complaint, an FIR for murder was registered against Anita at Surajkund police station, and she was arrested on Friday night. “Our police team cracked the case within hours and arrested the accused woman. We are questioning the accused woman after taking her on police remand,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson said.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case after arresting Anita, who they say confessed that the alleged murder followed a dispute over marriage.
