Authorities are investigating after two bodies were recovered on the same stretch of a river in Western Mass. days apart, the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

A 21-year-old man drowned in the Connecticut River on Saturday, the district attorney’s office announced Tuesday.
Authorities were dispatched to the area of Migratory Way in Turners Falls, commonly known as the “Rock Dam,” around 6 p.m., according to the district attorney. The man, who was identified as Hermes Mariano Almonte of Worcester, was recovered from the water and transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Officials say there is no indication of foul play and the investigation remains ongoing.
In a separate statement Tuesday, the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office announced a body was recovered in the area of Smead Island, a section of the Connecticut River that divides Greenfield and Turners Falls.
Emergency personnel responded to reports of an individual found along the shoreline. The adult male was recovered by emergency personnel and he was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
The man’s identity has not been released and the investigation remains ongoing, according to the district attorney’s office. The investigations are being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police and the Montague Police Department.
The state medical examiner’s office will determine the official cause of the deaths, the DA’s office said.
