Two Army personnel were critically injured in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kamalkote area of Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, sources told India Today.
The incident took place during operational activities in the forward area, following which the injured soldiers were evacuated and shifted to the 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for specialised medical treatment.
Their condition is being closely monitored by Army authorities, the sources added.
Security forces have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the blast and determine whether it was accidental or linked to any other activity near the LoC.
Officials said the cause of the explosion is currently being investigated.
SECURITY UNDER REVIEW IN REGION
This came on a day when a high-level meeting was held in Jammu to review security and administrative preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
The meeting was chaired by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and co-chaired by Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti, with senior officials from various departments and districts in attendance.
During the meeting, authorities discussed arrangements to ensure a smooth, organised and grand celebration on August 15.
The review covered key aspects including security measures, traffic regulation, parade arrangements, cultural programmes, stage management, illumination, drinking water supply, medical facilities, sanitation and other essential services at M A Stadium Jammu and venues across the division.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all departments to complete their assigned tasks within the stipulated time and ensure effective coordination.
He stressed that public safety and convenience must remain the top priority during the celebrations, while also emphasising discipline and adherence to protocol.
