After years of prestige dramas, documentaries and comedies, Apple TV+ is finally taking a chance on love, announcing its first dating series with one of the world’s best known relationship experts at the centre of the experiment.
The eight-part dating documentary series, The Last Person on Earth, follows internationally renowned psychotherapist, relationship expert and New York Times bestselling author Esther Perel as she pairs seemingly incompatible singles before sending them on a romantic adventure in one of the world’s most romantic and remote destinations.
The experiment asks whether the person you’d least expect to fall for could ultimately become the one you can’t live without.

While Apple TV+ has previously focused its unscripted slate on documentaries, travel and music series including The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, My Kind of Country and KPOPPED, The Last Person on Earth marks the streamer’s first dating series.
Unlike franchises such as Love Island, Love Is Blind and Married at First Sight, Apple’s latest series appears to lean more heavily into relationship psychology and documentary storytelling than competition or spectacle.
Perel said the series challenges long held assumptions about compatibility, encouraging people to step beyond their usual dating preferences and embrace the unexpected in the search for meaningful connections.
“When we choose to step outside the narrow boundaries of what feels familiar or safe, passionate love stories can flourish.”
Produced by UK based Boldprint Studios, the eight episode series is executive produced by Dan Gray, Lou Hutchinson and Phil Harris, with Josh Jacobs serving as series director alongside director Olly Lambert.
Boldprint’s previous credits include Prime Video’s Would You Rather: Decide to Survive.
Apple TV has not yet announced a premiere date for The Last Person on Earth.
