Police have identified the man who was pronounced dead Wednesday after being found “suffering from trauma” near the intersection of Boylston and Tremont streets on the Boston Common early that morning.
Jonathan Sanon, 35, of Norwood, was taken to Tufts Medical Center and pronounced dead after officers responding to a call for a “man down” located him shortly after 5 a.m., Boston police said Friday morning.
Ashlie Jeremie, a 27-year-old from Bedford, was arrested later that morning in connection to a separate assault that also took place Wednesday in which he allegedly struck a victim from behind with a metal pole. Officers found Jeremie with the pole and then linked him to the Boston Common incident as well, according to police.
Jeremie is facing charges of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and larceny under $1,200. He has pleaded not guilty and was ordered to undergo a competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
According to a Boston Globe report, Jeremie has a history of mental health issues and violence, and he was released from federal custody 16 days earlier.
