A bizarre security breach unfolded in Telangana after a man allegedly stole a parked Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus and led police on an 18-kilometre chase before being arrested. The accused was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.
According to police, the incident took place at the Korutla bus stand in Jagtial district, where the man spotted an unattended RTC bus parked on the premises, got behind the wheel and drove towards Metpalli.
The theft was quickly detected after RTC security personnel tracked the bus through its GPS system and alerted the police. A chase was launched, with police teams following the stolen vehicle.
During the pursuit, the accused allegedly drove recklessly, ramming into three two-wheelers and a police vehicle, triggering panic among commuters and motorists on the road.
Police eventually intercepted the bus near Metpalli after blocking the highway, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree. The accused allegedly attempted to flee but was overpowered and arrested by police.
A case has been registered, and investigators are probing the motive behind the theft. Police are also examining how the accused gained access to the bus and managed to drive it away from the depot without being noticed.
