Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday questioned PM Modi’s silence over the “brutal assault” on students who were marching to Parliament on Monday, demaning Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, turned violent as the protesters and police fought a pitched battle in the heart of Delhi. “Can’t he (PM Modi) make a statement in Parliament for the country’s youth? If he can speak outside, why not inside Parliament? Akhilesh said. Raising the plight of the protesters, Akhilesh said several students suffered broken bones and injuries to their heads during the crackdown. “The clothes of women students were torn, students were hit with lathis… Their limbs were broken. Is this the way to treat our students?” the Samajwadi Party MP said. “Will you tear the clothes of our daughters? Is this the way to treat them?”
