Cyclist, 83, hit and killed by pickup truck on the Cape

The victim, whose identity has not been released, died in the hospital.

An 83-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Cape Cod Monday morning, authorities said. 

Shortly before 11 a.m., responders were called to the area of Route 6 and Lieutenant Island Road in the Cape Cod town of Wellfleet for a report of a bicyclist struck by a 2019 Toyota Tundra, the Wellfleet Police Department said in a press release

The victim, an 83-year-old man, was provided medical care before being taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The identity of the victim will be released after his family has been notified, according to the department.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck, a 37-year-old man from New Hampshire, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

Traffic on both directions of Route 6 was “heavily delayed” following the incident, police noted. 

The crash remains under investigation.
