Adelaide is heading into a calm run of winter weather, with sunshine, cool mornings and mostly dry days across the week before showers return by Wednesday.
For the city, the weekend is shaping up nicely. Saturday will be sunny with light winds and a top of 18 degrees in the city, with slightly milder conditions in parts of the north such as Elizabeth and a cooler edge along the coast at Glenelg and Noarlunga. After a cold start, Sunday stays mostly sunny with another light-wind day and temperatures reaching 17 degrees. It’s the kind of settled mid-winter weather that makes outdoor plans easy, though early risers will still notice the chill.
Monday keeps that pattern going, with Adelaide expected to stay mostly sunny and dry. Morning temperatures will be cool at around 9 degrees before climbing to 18, and light winds will turn north to northwesterly during the day. Tuesday brings a little more cloud, but not much in the way of wet weather for the metro area. A partly cloudy sky and a top of 18 degrees are forecast, with only a slight chance of rain.
The bigger change arrives midweek. By Wednesday, showers are expected to move into Adelaide, and it looks set to be the wettest day of the seven-day stretch. The temperature will ease back to 16 degrees, with north to northwesterly winds shifting southwesterly later in the day, bringing a cooler feel across the city. Rainfall totals aren’t expected to be especially heavy, but there is a high chance of showers, so it’s the day to keep the umbrella handy.
Conditions remain a little unsettled into Thursday, with a medium chance of showers and a cooler maximum of 15 degrees. Southwesterly winds will add to that wintry feel. By Friday, Adelaide should start to settle again, with partly cloudy skies, only a slight chance of a shower, and another top of 15 degrees. Overall, it’s a fairly gentle week by July standards, with the first half bright and dry before a brief burst of more typical winter weather.
Across South Australia, the broader pattern is also being driven by a strong high pressure system over Victoria, which is extending stable conditions across the state. That means most districts can expect dry weather through at least Tuesday, along with maximum temperatures sitting slightly above average. Morning fog is likely in some areas, mainly on and east of the ranges on Saturday and Sunday, while cold starts remain a feature in agricultural and inland districts.
There’s also a frost risk away from Adelaide. Frost patches are expected through the southeast on Saturday morning, and on Sunday there is also the chance of frost about parts of the northern agricultural area and south of the North East Pastoral district. Western Kangaroo Island may see a possible late light shower on Tuesday, but otherwise regional South Australia is looking mostly dry. For coastal communities and boaters around Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, winds are expected to stay relatively light through the next few days, with low seas and small swells making for generally calm conditions.
