At least eight people have been pulled alive from the rubble after a large landslide buried several buildings in southwestern China.
The landslide struck a section of the Wujiang River in Pengshui, Chongqing Municipality, about 9am local time (11am AEST) on Friday, burying a number of homes.
According to local media, community workers noticed small rocks falling from the mountainside about 8am and issued an emergency warning, prompting authorities to evacuate more than 60 people.

However, the landslide struck during the evacuation, trapping some residents beneath the debris.
At least eight people have been rescued, while the exact number of people buried remains unclear.
There have been no reports of any deaths.

Footage from the scene shows debris from collapsed buildings tumbling into the river as a massive cloud of dust engulfed the area.
Witnesses said they heard a loud bang at the time of the landslide, describing the sound as “like cannon fire”.
Chongqing is known for its mountainous landscape, where landslides can occur during periods of heavy rain or geological instability.
