Adelaide weather forecast for Friday July 17th and the days ahead

Adelaide is heading into a calm, mostly sunny run of winter weather, with dry days set to hold through the weekend and early next week before showers return by Wednesday.

For the city, the next seven days are shaping up as a fairly settled stretch, and after a string of chilly mornings across South Australia. Friday stays sunny with light winds and a top of 17 degrees in the city, with nearby suburbs sitting in a similar range. Saturday continues much the same, starting cold at 7 degrees before reaching 18 under clear skies. Sunday looks just as pleasant, with a low of 9 and a top of 18 under mostly sunny skies.

By Monday, conditions start to shift slightly, though not dramatically, with partly cloudy skies and another top of 17 degrees. Tuesday turns cloudier again, but it is still expected to stay dry across Adelaide, with only a slight chance of rain and a maximum of 17. The more noticeable change arrives midweek. Wednesday brings a high chance of showers, with winds picking up from the north to northeasterly before swinging west to southwesterly during the day. Temperatures will still reach around 18 degrees, but it will feel more unsettled by afternoon. Thursday keeps that cooler, showery feel around, with a medium chance of showers, a top of 15 degrees and winds moving from northwest to southwesterly before tending southeast to southwesterly later.

The overall pattern is being driven by a strong high-pressure system over eastern South Australia, which is slowly moving east over the rest of the week and weekend. In practical terms, that means stable, dry weather for much of the state to begin with, along with light winds and cold starts in many areas. Adelaide’s local waters are also looking relatively calm through to Monday, with winds mostly light, seas below 1 metre and only small west to southwesterly swell, making for tidy conditions along the metropolitan coast.

Across regional South Australia, the story is also largely dry, though inland mornings will stay icy. For the rest of Friday, areas of fog and frost are expected about central and eastern parts of the agricultural areas and south of the pastoral districts. That risk lingers into Saturday and Sunday, especially on and east of the ranges, where morning fog may again develop. Daytime temperatures across the state are forecast to remain near average, though western districts may edge above average over the weekend and into Monday. Winds will gradually turn from southeast to northeasterly, then north to northeasterly by Sunday and Monday, helping keep the dry pattern in place. No significant rainfall is forecast across South Australia through to the end of Sunday.

For locals in frost-prone areas, the cold mornings are the main thing to watch. Early drivers should allow extra time where visibility drops in fog, while growers and gardeners in inland districts may need to keep an eye on sensitive plants.

Happy Friday!
