Jannik Sinner set to lose huge amount in tax after winning Wimbledon title

Jannik Sinner is set to lose a huge amount in tax after winning the Wimbledon title for the second time.

The Italian beat Alexander Zverev 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, 6-4 in an incredible match on Centre Court.

Sinner scooped a record-breaking £3.6million for winning the championship, but will miss out on a massive sum.

It is expected that the Italian will lose £1.62m in tax, leaving him with around £2m to take home to his place in Monaco.

Sinner produced a performance to remember against Zverev, winning in four sets to retain his title.

Speaking afterwards, the Italian was gracious in victory, praising his opponent for the challenge he posed.

He said: “It feels amazing. ‘Sascha’, I would like to start with you and your whole team and family. You reached one of your main goals; winning Grand Slams. You made it happen in Paris.

“Today you were so, so close. If you keep playing like this I’m sure you’re going to have this one at home as well.

“So amazing, keep going. I know another goal is for you to become No1 in the world. You are very close. I have to be very careful now! But congrats.”

Sinner admitted he had to work hard for the win, being taken to a tie-break twice in the match.

The Italian continued: “We both started very well, serving very fast, we prepared in the best possible way me and my team. I have to thank the whole team, the whole support I get from the whole box.

“My mum, I see her. She left the stadium a couple of times; being a player, it is not easy. In the same time, it has been an amazing final once again. It always takes two players.

“We try to give everything we have. I’m very happy about the win, but mostly very happy also about the level we played.”

The Italian was full of praise for the packed-out Centre Court crowd and thanked those who put the tournament together.

He said: “You (the crowd) are the reasons. There is no better place to play tennis. Standing here, you can feel the nerves on a Sunday morning when you wake up.

“It is a very, very special day. You never know how many times you can come back on Sunday. I never take things for granted.

“Playing in front of very, very special people throughout the whole couple of weeks, it has been amazing.

“You are always amazing to me, thanks for the support. You gave me the most special feeling a tennis player can ever feel like. Thank you so much.

“The last thing I would like to add is that it has been a couple of very, very warm days, no rain for the first time, which is amazing, but I would love to thank all the ball kids for everything you do.

“You make our life on court as simple as possible, thanks to the whole organisation behind the scenes, this is truly the most special tournament we have throughout the year. See you guys next year.”
