Adelaide weather forecast for Saturday July 11th and the days ahead

The wet and wintry weather continues in Adelaide, with showers, gusty winds and chilly daytime temperatures set to linger until midweek before brighter skies finally return.

Saturday will be the roughest day of the run for the city, with a very high chance of showers and rain most likely from the late morning into the afternoon. Northerly winds will strengthen through the morning before swinging westerly around the middle of the day, making for a blustery change across the metro area. The city is heading for a top of just 15 degrees, with 4 to 10mm of rain possible, so it’s the kind of day for raincoats, slow traffic and a close eye on conditions if you’re heading outdoors or to the coast.

Sunday keeps Adelaide under a blanket of cloud, with more showers likely and another cool top of 16 degrees. Westerly winds of 25 to 35 km/h will keep things feeling brisk, especially near the coast, before tending northwesterly later in the day. Monday looks much the same, with cloudy skies, more showers and a high of 16 degrees again. Winds will shift from northwesterly to westerly during the day as another weaker front moves through, keeping the damp winter pattern in place.

By Tuesday, conditions should begin to settle a little. Showers are still likely, especially in the morning, but they are expected to ease as the day goes on. Adelaide will remain on the cool side with a top of 16 degrees, though lighter winds during the afternoon should make it feel a little less harsh than the days before.

The second half of the week brings a welcome turnaround. Wednesday is forecast to be partly cloudy with just a slight chance of a shower and light winds, while Thursday turns properly sunny with a top of 17 degrees. By Friday, Adelaide should finish the working week under sunny skies with light winds and a slightly milder 18-degree maximum. After several grey, damp days, that late-week stretch will be welcome news for anyone planning to get out and enjoy the city.

Across South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a cold front crossing the south today, followed by a weaker front on Monday, before a high pressure system near southern Western Australia begins to steady things from the middle of next week. For regional areas, that means showers spreading across the agricultural districts and southern pastoral areas today, with isolated thunderstorms possible about the southeast coast and western Kangaroo Island, and possible thunderstorms with showers in the southeast. Sunday and Monday will keep showers going across the southern agricultural area, especially along westward-facing coasts and the ranges, while temperatures stay near to below average. By Tuesday, showers contract to isolated falls over the agricultural area.

Rainfall totals through to the end of Tuesday are expected to stay generally under 2mm across the southern pastoral districts, lifting to 2 to 5mm across the northern agricultural area and west coast, and 5 to 15mm across the southern agricultural area. Higher totals of 15 to 30mm are possible about the Mount Lofty Ranges, which is worth keeping in mind for local roads, paddocks and any weekend travel through the hills.

Happy Saturday, stay dry!
