COMING SOON: Popular build-your-own hotpot restaurant, Lazy Boy, reveals plans for its second location

It’s great news for hotpot lovers north of Adelaide, with popular Mawson Lakes venue Lazy Boy Hotpot finally expanding into a second location.

The new Blakeview venue brings the family-run business back to the area where its owners grew up.

“We grew up around the Munno Para and Blakeview area, as well as Angle Vale,” co-owner Andrew said.

“We’ve seen what the area was like 20 years ago and how much it has grown.”

For the team, the expansion is not only about growing the business, but also contributing to the community they once called home.

Behind the shop’s bold red design is Adelaide-based interior design company Faculty Design, which also completed the fit-out of Lazy Boy’s first venue.

Andrew said the team asked Faculty Design to retain the original venue’s colours and atmosphere while creating a more modern “2.0” version of the Mawson Lakes store.

“They came back with the drawings and we fell in love with them,” he said.

Specialising in malatang and dry pot stir-fries, the playful venue is known for its simple three-step bowl-building experience.

First, customers browse the fridges and choose their ingredients, with options ranging from meats and roe-filled fish balls to enoki mushrooms, vegetables and noodles.

Next, the bowl is weighed, a soup base is selected, and the ingredients are cooked fresh on the spot.

Finally, customers can finish their dish with a mix of sauces and condiments from the self-serve station.

According to its website, Lazy Boy combines “time-honoured recipes” with “modern culinary techniques” that can cater to both seasoned hotpot experts and newcomers.

“We’re going to keep the same concept and do everything how we’re doing it now,” Andrew said.

Down the track, Andrew said the team are looking to introduce more specials and soup flavours.

The Lazy Boy name came from a group chat shared by the original owners.

“It’s quite funny,” Andrew said.

“The group chat we created while coming up with the business was called “Lazy Boys,” because it was like the lazy way of doing hotpot.”

“When it came time to create the actual name, we couldn’t figure one out… I think the designer waited on us for about three months.”

After months of discussing possible names, the team returned to the group chat name that had started it all.

“We started telling our mates, ‘We’re just going to keep calling it Lazy Boy,’ and they said, ‘That sounds better than everything else you guys came up with.’”

The Blakeview venue, is still undergoing renovations as we speak, so for now we’ll have to enjoy the same great offering at the Mawson Lakes spot.
