Revolution captain Carles Gil is heading back to a familiar midseason setting: The MLS All-Star Game.
Gil, 33, was announced on Wednesday as a selection to the MLS All-Star roster ahead of the league’s game against an All-Star squad from Mexico’s LIGA MX.
The game, which will be played in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium on July 29, will include just Gil as New England’s representative. Despite the team’s successful start to the current MLS season, Gil was the only member of the Revolution to make the 29-player cut.
Along with players who were voted in, Gil was named as a “coach’s selection” via Charlotte FC’s Dean Smith. The talented Spanish midfielder has five goals and four assists in 14 games this season.
It’s the fifth MLS All-Star selection for Gil in his distinguished career. After joining the Revolution in 2019 from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña, Gil was voted into the league’s “Best XI,” and also won the “MLS Newcomer of the Year Award.” In 2021, he was named MLS MVP, and has established himself as one of the best players in club history.
The Revolution’s MLS campaign remains in a pause due to the ongoing World Cup. New England resumes regular season play on July 22 at Gillette Stadium against Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m.
