More than two weeks after a gym trainer went missing and was later found dead, the Bannerghatta police have arrested four persons for murder.

The victim, Vijay Kumar, 32, whose decomposed body was recovered from Kaleshwari village near Anekal on June 10.

The arrested have been identified as Srirama, Sumith, Venkateshaiah and Babu, all residents of Anekal.

Vijay, a native of Mulbagal in Kolar district and a resident of Electronics City, went missing on June 8. The police said he had been living separately from his wife and two children for the past two years following a marital dispute and a dowry harassment case.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police S. Girish said the accused are in police custody, and investigators are trying to establish the motive behind the murder and ascertain the involvement of any other persons.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s family has alleged that an influential builder was behind the murder after Vijay reportedly became friends with the builder’s daughter, who was a client at his gym. The family claimed the two had earlier eloped and were later traced by the police.

Investigators, however, said they have largely ruled out Vijay’s marital dispute as the motive and are pursuing other leads.
