A Connecticut man who was driving on the wrong side of a Massachusetts highway died Saturday after crashing head-on into another car in Millbury, police said.
At around 12:43 a.m. Saturday, State Police tried pulling over a car driving on I-90 West, State Police told Boston.com.
The driver, a man in his twenties, pulled over but then sped away after the trooper walked up to his vehicle, police said.
“State Police issued a BOLO (“be on the lookout”) for the suspect vehicle,” police wrote.
Nearly ten minutes later, State Police saw the suspect merging onto Route 146 and travelling in the wrong direction of traffic in Millbury, police said.
“Despite the efforts of Troopers to stop the vehicle, including positioning stop sticks, the driver crashed head-on into another passenger vehicle between the on and off-ramps at exit 17,” State Police said.
The wrong-way driver died, while the driver of the other vehicle had non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Traffic was diverted, and the scene was cleared at around 4:30 a.m., police said.
