A six-year-old boy died under mysterious circumstances in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district, with relatives alleging that the death may be linked to black magic rituals and a possible human sacrifice allegedly carried out by his grandmother and aunt. According to relatives, the child was blamed for the marital discord between his parents.
The victim, Mugilan, was found dead at his grandmother’s house under suspicious circumstances. According to preliminary findings, the child had burn marks on his body, following which police recovered the body based on information from relatives and local residents and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Allegations of black magic emerged during the initial stages of the investigation, although police have not confirmed any such angle so far.
According to police sources, Mugilan was the son of Rajesh and Asha. The couple reportedly experienced marital discord after his birth and lived separately for several years before reconciling.
They later moved to another town for work, leaving Mugilan in the care of his paternal grandmother, Vijaya. The child was found dead at her residence.
Relatives alleged that Vijaya practised black magic rituals. They also claimed that Rajesh’s sister, Revathi, who lived in the same village, harboured resentment towards the child and blamed him for the marital problems between his parents.
Police have detained both Vijaya and Revathi for questioning.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed burn injuries on the child’s body as well as a head injury suspected to have been caused by a weapon. However, the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
The incident has fuelled speculation in the area about the possibility of a human sacrifice linked to rituals allegedly performed on Amavasya (new moon day). Visuals from the grandmother’s house also showed alleged ritualistic objects and unusual items, prompting further rumours about possible occult practices.
However, police officials said there is currently no evidence to substantiate claims of human sacrifice or black magic and urged the public not to engage in speculation.
Officials added that forensic and post-mortem reports are awaited, and that further details regarding the circumstances of the child’s death will emerge only after scientific examination of the evidence.
