A man at a restaurant in Dennis was fatally shot early Saturday, turning a dining room into a crime scene.
The victim was shot and killed at around midnight, according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office. A male suspect is in custody and is scheduled to appear Monday morning in Orleans District Court.
The shooting happened at Moonfish Restaurant & Tavern on Main Street. Velma Mitchell, the restaurant’s owner, told The Boston Globe that she doesn’t know the victim.
Mitchell said she was at the restaurant’s bar when she heard three gunshots in the dining room. Up to 30 people were in the restaurant when the gunfire erupted, but no one else was injured, according to the Globe.
Moonfish temporarily closed Saturday due to the shooting, according to a Facebook post. Mitchell did not explicitly reference a shooting or name the victim on social media, but she did offer her condolences to the victim’s family.
“As a business owner and as a member of this community, I am saddened beyond words by the tragedy that occurred,” Mitchell said on Facebook. “My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. I also keep everyone who has been affected by this tragedy in my prayers, including our staff, customers, and community members who are hurting and trying to make sense of what happened.”
Prosecutors have not yet publicly named the victim or suspect, nor have they identified what charges the alleged shooter will face. The DA’s office declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation.
