2 cars drove onto Marblehead football field, 1 later found in ocean

“In a preliminary investigation, Marblehead Police determined that two vehicles were involved, and were able to get a description of both vehicles,” Marblehead police said.

Police are searching for the drivers of two vehicles accused of damaging a Marblehead high school’s football field, then dumping one of the cars into the ocean, police said.

Early Wednesday morning, police were called to Marblehead High School’s football field on Humphrey Avenue, Marblehead police announced in a press release on Wednesday

Police found a damaged access gate and markings on the field indicating that a set of cars had driven across it, the department said.

The field did not have significant damage, police said.

“In a preliminary investigation, Marblehead Police determined that two vehicles were involved, and were able to get a description of both vehicles,” Marblehead police said.

Later than morning, Marblehead police were sent to Grace Oliver’s Beach for a report of a car submerged in the ocean, the department said.

The car was unoccupied, but matched the description of one of the vehicles that drove onto the football field, police said.

Police also discovered that the car had been reported as stolen, police said.

“Marblehead Police is actively investigating to identify the person, or people, responsible. The investigation is being treated as a criminal matter, and police intend to issue charges,” the department said.
