AJ Brown was traded to the Patriots and everything is worse now. Okay, it’s not that dramatic but AJ Brown is a good player. Good players make teams better #analysis. I think the Eagles did a good job getting value for him and the Patriots are a good candidate to regress in the coming years. In this article we’ll break everything down.
No, the article picture is not real but it’s felt that way for a while now. He also has a Patriots rug in his house for years admitted in a recent interview. Kind of weird to go on the record and say that. Should anything go wrong and he wants to leave the Patriots, like he did the Titans and Eagles, it won’t look too great. Seems like he was always going to end up on the Patriots anyway. Given this seeming inevitability, Howie got a decent trade value for a player on his way out.
The Eagles got a 2028 first and 2027 fifth round pick. Not a bad haul overall for a player that demanded a trade. Also fits well with the mentality Howie has tried to build for now, but also plan for the future. Howie’s ability to keep the roster strong but not mortgage everything is why we need to hope he lives as long as Jerry Jones. There’s a good chance that the Patriots take a step back in the coming seasons.
Losing a Super Bowl doesn’t set your team up for success. There’s only been four QBs that have lost their first Super Bowl and went on to win the big game. Obviously there’s Jalen Hurts but also John Elway, Bob Griese, and Len Dawson have won after losing. It even took Hurts a gap year before making it back. It’s very likely Drake Maye and the Patriots struggle going into next season.
There’s another reason to think the Patriots are going to take a step back. During the offseason, there was a fairly big off the field story involving the Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. He was caught “interlocking fingers” with a journalist, Dianna Russini (see the article picture was foreshadowing). Both of them are married, to other people. I’ve never seen two friends hold hands like that. Go ahead, next time you’re out with your friends ask to try it out. From personal experience (done for science) it’s extremely awkward. The Patriots have done their best to sweep this under the rug but Vrabel did have to miss a draft day to go to counseling so it’s impacting the team. Distractions can add up very quickly. These distractions can then end up derailing a season. The worse the Patriots are, the more fortuitous it is for the Eagles future.
In the end it gives Eagles fans a great excuse to wish the Patriots to fail. I’m not sure people need it given what Tom Brady and the Patriots did to the NFL for years. I’m also not going to bash the guy too hard, I’ll save that for the Patriots team themselves. He was instrumental in winning a Super Bowl. Devonta Smith got time to grow before being setup as a true number one receiver. I’ll look fondly on his time with the Eagles overall but thankfully it’s the last time we have to worry about it. Yeah, no chance people analyze every big game he has especially if the Eagles struggle. Anyway and as always, Go Birds!
