Adelaide weather forecast for Wednesday June 3rd and the days ahead

Adelaide is set for a cold, showery stretch to start the week, with rain, brisk winds and grey skies hanging around for the next few days before a milder long weekend finish and slightly warmer weather early next week.

For Wednesday, the city is looking at a thoroughly wintry day, with cloudy conditions and a very high chance of showers across the metro area. Adelaide’s top is expected to reach just 15 degrees, with 4 to 10mm of rain possible and westerly winds at 20 to 30km/h shifting southwesterly later in the evening.

Tomorrow continues in much the same vein, with showers likely, especially early, and a chilly range of 10 to 15 degrees. Southwesterly winds of 25 to 35km/h will make it feel cooler again, though conditions should gradually ease as the day goes on.

By Friday, Adelaide should see a small lift in the temperature, reaching 17 degrees, but showers are still likely. Winds will swing from south to southwesterly before turning westerly and then becoming light later in the day, which should make for a calmer afternoon. Saturday keeps a few showers in the picture, most likely during the morning, with a partly cloudy sky and another top of 17 degrees.

The outlook turns more settled from Sunday. Adelaide can expect partly cloudy skies, only a slight chance of a shower, and a top of 19 degrees with light winds. That calmer pattern continues into Monday, also heading for 19 degrees under partly cloudy skies, this time with north to northeasterly winds picking up a little. By Tuesday, temperatures edge up again to around 20 degrees. There is a slight chance of a late shower, but overall it looks like a brighter and milder end to the seven-day stretch.

Across South Australia, the pattern is being driven by a broad low pressure setup and a cold front moving across coastal parts, keeping much of the south and agricultural districts under frequent showers through to the weekend. On Wednesday, showers are forecast about the West Coast and agricultural area, possibly extending into the southern Pastoral districts, with possible thunderstorms developing near western coasts, Yorke Peninsula and Kangaroo Island later in the day. Thursday keeps showers in place across the same areas, with possible thunderstorms near central and eastern coastal parts, while maximum temperatures remain below average in the south and a little warmer further north.

Friday and Saturday should bring a gradual easing, though showers will continue about windward coasts, ranges and southern agricultural districts before contracting back to southern coasts later Saturday. Rainfall totals to the end of Saturday are expected to stay below 5mm in the south of the Pastoral districts, rise to 2 to 10mm across the agricultural area, and reach 10 to 25mm about central windward coasts and ranges, with isolated falls of 25 to 40mm.

For inland river communities, flood impacts remain a serious concern, with elevated levels continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole and the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka for several weeks. Many roads and access tracks are impacted by flooding, particularly at river and creek crossings, so travellers are being urged to check conditions before heading out.

Happy Wednesday!
