What’s New in the Hamptons This Summer?

Julien Farrel (Southampton)

This might be the most unrelatable sentence I’ve ever typed but: finally, there’s another place to get your hair done in the Hamptons. God forbid a girl want effortlessly beachy waves in a beach community, ok?

And it’s a good place. Actually, a great place! Julien Farel, the French hair stylist known for coiffing the locks of Uptown Manhattan (clients include Lauren Bush Lauren and Kelly Rutherford) is opening a new salon and spa in Southampton. There’s all the traditional hair services you want and need: facials, manicures, and even a speciality service to help not-so-natural blondes get the green tinge of chlorine out.

Montauk General Store (Montauk)

A Gen Z girlie at Le Dive excitedly told me about Montauk General Store, which began as a lifestyle brand selling a $55 baseball cap with a mermaid logo and then a series of pop ups with laidback surfer-y merchandise and matcha lattes. Now, founder Kate Diament has a permanent location at 805 Montauk Highway. If the bougie Hamptons moms go to Sagopanack General Store, I bet their sons and daughters will go to Montauk General.

Maison Close (Southampton)

I suspect that twenty-somethings planning bachelor or bachelorette trips in the Hamptons will make up a small subset of my readership. This news is for you: Maison Close, the SoHo party spot for dinner, champagne popping, and dancing on tables, is taking over the Capri Hotel in Southampton. If your bride or groom wants to have a wild night, this is probably the place. The one in the city is where Millie Bobby Brown had her 21st birthday, after all. In a similar vein, if one wants to spot a Real Housewives or Summer House star, it’s a safe bet.

Camp Rubirosa (East Hampton)

I also suspect that parents with children will make up a (larger) subset of my readership. So thrilling news: Camp Rubirosa, an outdoor offshoot of famed New York Pizzeria Rubirosa, is opening a permanent summer location on Race Lane after their successful pop up last season. Camp Rubirosa is delightful for all diners—who doesn’t love firepits, outdoor picnic tables, and pizza?—but it is especially delightful for those smaller ones who may feel the insatiable need to run around on a grassy lawn during dinner.
