Adelaide is heading into a wet, windy and wintry start to June, with showers set to push through every day until at least Friday and damaging winds possible across the city and hills from later today.
Monday looks like the roughest day of the week for Adelaide. The Bureau says some of those storms could turn severe, with heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding about the hills and southern suburbs. Winds will also ramp up through the day, shifting northerly to northwesterly and becoming strong and gusty. Temperatures will stay cool, with a top of 20 degrees in the city and slightly lower readings through Mount Barker and the southern suburbs.
Tuesday keeps the unsettled pattern going, with another round of showers, possible morning thunderstorms and more damaging winds in the mix. Adelaide will feel colder as the wind swings around from the west to southwest, with the temperature only reaching 18 degrees after an overnight low of 13. By Wednesday, the city settles into a classic winter run of showers and blustery westerlies.
Thursday stays grey and damp, with showers continuing and another burst of southwesterly wind returning through the morning. Adelaide’s top is forecast to remain at 16 degrees, with rainfall totals building across several days rather than arriving in one single hit.
Friday finally brings a little relief, with showers most likely in the morning before gradually easing. It will still be cool, with a low of 9 and a top of 16, but conditions should feel a touch calmer.
The weekend offers a more manageable finish after a stormy run. Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy with just a medium chance of a shower and light winds, reaching 18 degrees.
By Sunday, Adelaide should see a slightly brighter day with only a slight chance of a shower and temperatures lifting to 19 degrees as northerly winds return. For anyone with outdoor plans, the second half of the weekend is shaping up far better than the working week, though it will still be worth keeping an umbrella close by.
South Australians are being urged to prepare for a significant burst of damaging winds, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a Severe Weather Warning covering Adelaide and large parts of the state from Monday morning.
The warning area includes the Adelaide Metropolitan district, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the Murraylands, North West Pastoral, North East Pastoral and Riverland districts.
