No injuries were reported after the vehicle struck a State Police cruiser and nearly hit a Malden police officer, authorities said.

A suspect wanted in connection with a drug investigation led police on a chase through multiple Massachusetts communities Friday morning, striking a State Police cruiser before escaping with at least one passenger, authorities said.

Now, a search is underway for the car’s driver, who remains at large after abandoning the vehicle in Stoneham.

Malden police said officers were alerted by other law enforcement agencies that they were following a vehicle whose driver had multiple outstanding arrest warrants. Officers responded to Main Street and Bickford Road, where they tried to stop the vehicle. Authorities said the driver tried to flee and, in doing so, struck an unmarked State Police cruiser.

A uniformed Malden police officer who exited his cruiser to help was nearly hit by the fleeing vehicle, police said.

No injuries were reported.

“At this time, there is no information to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact law enforcement,” Malden police said in a social media post.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Lindenwood Road in Stoneham, where authorities say both the driver and passenger fled on foot, according to officials.

Police K-9 units searched the area where the vehicle was abandoned. Authorities said the investigation remains active.

WCVB reported that the suspect was wanted on several outstanding drug warrants and had allegedly removed an electronic monitoring bracelet before fleeing when officers approached.
