Police bust Pak-linked terror module planning attacks in UP, Delhi, Punjab

A terror module allegedly linked to Pakistan-based gangsters Shahzad Bhatti and Abid Jatt had planned major attacks across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the Uttar Pradesh ATS said after arresting four suspected operatives.

The accused — Mehkab, Gagandeep Singh alias Guri, Shahrukh and Musharraf — were arrested on Wednesday in a joint operation by the UP ATS and the Special Task Force.

According to investigators, the module had identified crowded hospitals, a political party office and a school operator as targets after conducting detailed reconnaissance.

The probe revealed that Mehkab and Gagandeep Singh alias Guri had already completed reconnaissance of the targeted locations, while Shahrukh and Musharraf were allegedly searching social media platforms for ways to carry out hospital blasts.

Investigators said videos and photographs of the identified targets in Delhi and Punjab, along with latitude-longitude details, were allegedly sent to Pakistan-based gangster Bhatti.

According to the UP ATS, the attacks were to be carried out once weapons and explosives were procured through Bhatti’s network.

The agency further said Bhatti had not disclosed the identity of the school operator targeted in Punjab, and the details were to be shared only after the delivery of weapons.

The UP ATS alleged that Bhatti has been attempting to orchestrate targeted killings across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab.

The breakthrough is being seen as a significant success for investigative agencies in dismantling cross-border terror and criminal networks allegedly operating through digital channels.

DISMANTLING BHATTI’S TERROR NETWORK

So far, the UP ATS claims to have busted four separate modules linked to the Pakistan-based gangster. The agency has questioned over 150 suspects and sent 13 accused to jail as part of its ongoing crackdown on Bhatti’s network.

Apart from the UP ATS, teams of the Delhi Police Special Cell have also conducted multiple raids and arrested several alleged operatives linked to the Pakistan-based gangster.

Three weeks ago, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested nine alleged operatives linked to the ISI-backed Bhatti module from Delhi and several other states. Police had also recovered weapons from the accused during the operation.

Investigators had then revealed that the module allegedly planned attacks on a historic temple in Delhi, a popular dhaba on the Delhi-Sonipat highway, and a military camp in Hisar.

In April this year, the Delhi Police arrested two more alleged operatives accused of planning targeted killings and grenade attacks across the Delhi-NCR region.

In November last year, the Special Cell busted another terror-gangster module and arrested three accused from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The group was allegedly involved in a grenade attack in Punjab and had also conducted reconnaissance of several potential targets across states.
