JetBlue Significantly Expands at Fort Lauderdale Airport Following Spirit Airlines Shutdown – L’union Suite

Weeks after the sudden shutdown of Spirit Airlines, JetBlue is aggressively expanding its footprint at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), bringing new flights, jobs, and economic growth to South Florida.

JetBlue President Marty St. George announced that the airline is increasing its daily flight schedule at FLL and positioning the airport as a larger connecting hub for travelers. This expansion comes at a pivotal time as the region adjusts to the loss of the Broward-based low-cost carrier.

JetBlue currently operates around 108 daily flights from Fort Lauderdale. That number is expected to increase to approximately 128 daily flights by July 2026, with plans to reach nearly 150 daily flights by early 2027. The airline is also expanding its pilot base in Broward County and has begun hiring former Spirit Airlines crew members affected by the shutdown.

“Right now, we’re bigger than we’ve ever been at FLL,” JetBlue President Marty St. George told the Miami Herald. “And we’re going to get a lot bigger.”

The expansion is expected to deliver a significant boost to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, one of South Florida’s busiest travel hubs, while creating new job opportunities in the local aviation industry.

This strategic growth positions JetBlue as a major beneficiary in the shifting South Florida airline landscape following Spirit’s exit.
