Railway Ministry unveils first look of India’s bullet train

The Ministry of Railways has released the first official look of India’s upcoming bullet train. The flagship project will operate on the 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, utilising Japan’s Shinkansen technology. Once completed, the high-speed train is designed to reach a maximum operating speed of 320 kilometres per hour, significantly reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from over seven hours to under three hours. The visuals, displayed at Railway Bhawan, showcase a design inspired by a bird, featuring patterned colours on the top. The project is progressing rapidly, with recent milestones including the lowering of a six-metre cutter head for a tunnel boring machine at Vikhroli in Mumbai. The official launch of India’s first bullet train is scheduled for August 2027.
