“Cats with similar injuries who receive surgical treatment usually adapt well once they’ve recovered—they may just walk a bit differently,” a MSPCA-Angell doctor said.

A young cat who miraculously survived a ten-story fall is receiving medical treatment from staff at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, the nonprofit that runs the medical center said.
The cat has two broken paws that are “fractured completely away from the bones in her forearms,” along with a collapsed lung, Julie Coen, a content creator for MSPCA-Angell, told Boston.com.
On Monday, a person surrendered their one-year-old cat who had allegedly fallen ten stories from a Greater Boston area apartment building, Coen said.
Three days prior to her surrender, the cat — now named Mazy — allegedly fell from an apartment’s “15th floor window onto a 5th-floor landing, ultimately plunging nearly ten stories,” MSPCA-Angell posted on Instagram.
Law enforcement with the animal nonprofit is still investigating what caused the cat’s fall, the organization said.
Mazy had not received medical attention before she was brought into Angell Animal Medical Center, MSPCA-Angell said.
Her owner relinquished Mazy to MSPCA-Angell because they could not provide the proper medical attention for her, the medical center said.
After the fall, Mazy had been moving around by standing upright on her back legs with her front legs hoisted in the air, the nonprofit said.
Despite her injuries, Mazy still rolls over for belly rubs, MSPCA-Angell said in the Instagram post.
“The staff said she had been very sweet and affectionate,” Coen told Boston.com.
Her car is expected to cost up to $15,000, MSPCA-Angell said.
The MSPCA is accepting donations to help cover the cost of the medical expenses, the non-profit said.
“Cats with similar injuries who receive surgical treatment usually adapt well once they’ve recovered—they may just walk a bit differently,” Dr. Kiko Bracker, Director of Emergency and Critical Care at MSPCA-Angell in Boston, said. “If that’s the case for Mazy, I’m confident she’ll overcome it because she’s already proven she’s resilient!”
